Neurons

This series came about after serving as Silver Hill Hospital Resiliency Campaign educator, where we trained police officers and first responders on emotional regulation and self-care. Additionally, I consistently educate clients in my private practice about how anxiety impacts the brain. I use art therapy to help individuals understand the connection between internal and external information/stimulus and the roles that the thalamus, amygdala, prefrontal cortex, and hypothalamus play in emotional self-regulation. Art enriches how people learn about their behaviors, harnessing meta-cognition (thinking about thinking) and psycho-education, all to improve lives and assist in managing anxiety. The series includes small ink drawings and large abstract pieces to help individuals engender the mind's extraordinary power, combining neuroscience and art to simplify complex ideas. I like to assign attributes and personalities to the neurons, they are in their own universe, which is accessible and yet completely abstract.
